Dr. L. Mahesh Kumar serves as the Registrar of St. Peter’s Institute of Higher Education and Research (SPIHER), Chennai, bringing with him over 37 years of rich experience in teaching, research, academic administration, and institutional leadership. His distinguished career reflects a strong commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the holistic development in higher education institutions.
A specialist in Manufacturing Technology, Dr.L.Mahesh Kumar has significant expertise in Metal Forming, Metal Casting, and Machining. He has contributed extensively to the field through research publications and his sustained engagement in mechanical engineering education and research. His academic contributions and professional excellence have been recognised through several distinctions, including the Best Academic Award conferred by the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI).
He has also served as a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, contributing to the academic and professional development of engineering students. He has been actively associated with several professional bodies and has served as the Secretary of the Indian Institute of Production Engineers, Tamil Nadu Centre. He was also a former Governing Council Member of the Indian Step and Business Incubator Association (ISBA).

His commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship is further reflected in his role as the Chief Executive Officer of the St. Peter’s Engineering College Technology Business Incubator, where he has contributed to promoting research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven initiatives among students and faculty.
He began his professional career with academic institutions in Bengaluru and subsequently joined Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur. His academic journey progressed through several significant leadership positions, including Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at St. Peter’s Engineering College, Chennai, followed by his appointment as Principal of SMK Fomra Institute of Technology, Chennai. He later served as Director (Academic) at St. Peter’s University before taking charge as Registrar of SPIHER.
As Registrar, Dr. L.Mahesh Kumar contributes to the effective governance and administration of the institution, supporting academic excellence, quality enhancement, institutional development, and the realization of SPIHER’s vision and mission.
Beyond academics and administration, he has maintained a deep and longstanding association with Bharatanatyam for over 55 years. His artistic journey includes performing Nrithya Nivedana at two temples for more than three decades, reflecting his enduring commitment to Indian classical arts and cultural heritage.
With his extensive academic experience, administrative leadership, professional engagement, recognition for academic excellence, and lifelong dedication to the arts, Dr. L.
